The Virtues of Singing

Thanks to Scelata for drawing my attention to this excellent article in The Catholic Herald.

We really can't expect great congregational singing or great choirs to emerge out of the void.  Our voices will be something we bring into the Church.  And one of the tragedies of our time has been the loss of what I call "just singing."  Singing in the car, singing around a campfire with a guitar or in the parlor with a piano, singing along with the radio (most songs now have no melodies, so that's a wash).

Singing also has numerous health benefits that have been documented by researchers. This article gives a great summary.

A few years ago, I wrote my plea for family singing and Domestic-Church put it on their website. It's tucked under Articles on the Assumption and Queenship of Mary.

God and the Pope want you to sing.  It's good for your health and will entertain the family.  So what's your excuse?
